BASF Greater China Annual Report 2022 releasedIssuing time:2023-07-03 13:39 On 11 June, 2023,BASF released the “BASF Greater China Annual Report 2022”. The report showsthat in 2022, BASF’s sales in the Greater China region reached about EUR11.6billion, and its carbon emissions have been reduced for six consecutive years.
In 2022, BASFGroup’s global sales stood at EUR87.3 billion. Among them, sales in GreaterChina were about EUR11.6 billion, accounting for 14%. At present, Greater Chinahas become BASF’s second-largest market in the world, second only to the UnitedStates.
As one of thelargest chemical companies in the world, BASF has a footprint in 91 countriesaround the world with about 239 production sites. Currently, BASF has 26 majorwholly-owned subsidiaries, 10 major joint ventures, and 23 sales offices inGreater China.
According tothe report, BASF has a strong local production layout in Greater China, aleading position in sustainable development, and increasing innovationcapabilities. Major businesses include petrochemicals, intermediates,performance materials, monomers, dispersions & pigments, performancechemicals, catalysts, coatings, care chemicals, nutrition & health, andagricultural solutions.
The Chinesemarket is full of vitality and the demand for chemicals is also increasing dayby day. BASF continues to expand its domestic production capacity. So far, BASFhas invested more than EUR9.0 billion in Greater China (more than EUR13.0billion with partners).
Currently,BASF has six major production sites in China, including 1. ShanghaiPudong Innovation Park 2. ShanghaiCaojing Site 3. Nanjing Site 4. Nanjing VerbundSite 5. Chongqing Site 6. Zhanjiang VerbundSite
In 2022, thefirst plant of BASF Zhanjiang Verbund Site was officially put into operation,capable of producing 60,000 t/a modified engineering plastics. By 2030, theinvestment in the Zhanjiang Verbund Site will reach EUR10 billion, making itBASF’s largest investment project. At present, the construction is beingpromoted in an all-round way, focusing on the core of the verbund site,including a steam cracking unit and multiple downstream units.
In 2022, BASFexpanded battery material production capacity in Changsha and Shizuishan. Furthermore,it established a new joint venture with Heraeus in Pinghu, focusing on therecovery of precious metals from used auto catalysts.
As anenergy-intensive enterprise, the total energy consumption of BASF’s production sitesin Greater China increased in 2022. BASF said this was mainly due to thefull-year reporting of the four newly acquired sites in 2021.
In addition,due to the increased use of renewable energy, BASF’s total greenhouse gasemissions from chemical production and operations in Greater China were 1.176million tonnes, a year-on-year decrease of 0.5%. BASF wants to achieve globalnet-zero CO2 emissions by 2050. In Greater China, BASF’s salesincreased by nearly 60% compared to 2017, but its carbon emissions were 19%lower than in 2017. |
