On 25 June, 2018, the National Agro-Tech Extension and Sevice Center (NATESC) published the latest forecast on rice insect pests and diseases in China. The report said that as of the mid-June, rice insect pests and diseases have been found in 13 million ha (197 million mu) of paddy fields this year, a 5% increase over the same period last year; in the next period, as the weather conditions are generally favorable to the occurrence of rice pests and diseases in the rice planting areas of the Yangtze River Region, the NATESC reminded that local plant protection departments should keep close track of the real-time occurrence status, making in-time publishment as well as guidance to farmers on prevention and control.
