China National Chemical Corporation (ChemChina) finished the acquisition of Syngenta, the Switzerland agrochemical and seed company. On 26 June, 2017, Syngenta held a shareholder conference, on which 16 shareholders who hold 95.11% of the company shares, passed all the proposals popped out by the Board of Directors. Moreover, Ren Jianxin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ChemChina was selected as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Syngenta.
On 5 May, 2017, China National Chemical Corporation (ChemChina) and Switzerland based Syngenta jointly announced the approval by the latter’s shareholders through voting about the acquisition conducted by the former at USD43 billion. “ChemChina has reduced the stake to be acquired, from 100% to 80%+,” reported a domestic source, “Whether the sum (= USD43 billion) has been decreased or not remains to be seen. ”
On 28 Oct. 2016, the European Union Competition Commission will decide whether to approve the full acquisition made by China National Chemical Corporation (ChemChina) of Switzerland based Syngenta, or to initiate anti-monopoly investigation.
In Sept., 2016, the China National Chemical Corporation (ChemChina) announced to postpone its acquisition of Syngenta again, to 8 Nov., 2016, which is the third time that the plan has been delayed. With the USD43 billion full-cash payment, the acquisition has been drawing attention and controversy since its beginning in Feb. due to the GM giant identity of Syngenta.
In 2016, Syngenta signed the agreement framework about the science and technology cooperation project regarding scientific use of pesticides, biological diversity and apicultural development, with the Institute of Apicultural Research, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (IAR, CAAS). It is aimed at solidifying and expanding the cooperation in fields of scientific use of pesticides and apicultural science.
On 21-23 Oct., 2015, the Syngenta Chinese Media Seminar was held in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province. In addition to the overview on the company development, topics related to the sustainable agricultural development, such as pesticide reduction and grain safety, were discussed at the seminar. The National Agri-Tech Extension Service Centre and the Centre for Agri-food Quality & Safety, both under China’s Ministry of Agriculture, and many media outlets were present.
On 8 July, 2015, the domestic professional third-party e-commerce platform for agricultural means of production(http://mall.51zhongzi.com (51zhongzi)), signed an agreement with Syngenta in Beijing. The former became the only e-commerce partner for Syngenta’s seed coating agents in China so far.
In Dec. 2014, Syngenta held a celebration in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, in which president of Syngenta China, Business Operating Director, clients of Syngenta and representatives of outstanding dealers participated.
On 21 Nov., 2014, Syngenta held a press conference for the release of LVFEI™ in Wuhan City, Hubei Province. It is a mixture of azoxystrobin and isopyrazam, the latest patented active ingredient owned by Syngenta.
