Corn borer: first generation’s damage predicted to be moderate generally in 2016, 9.3 million ha in total

According to the National Agro-Tech Extension and Service Center (NATESC)’s projection published on 13 June, 2016, the number of live corn borers on 100 plants in most planting areas this year is lower than those in conventional years including 2015. The first generation of corn borer is predicted to heavily strike the western part of Northeast China, the northern part of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and some regions in the Huang-Huai-Hai Area; moderately in North China, the rest of Northeast China and the Huang-Huai-Hai Area; and slightly in the rest of the planting areas in the country. Estimation of the total occurrence area of the first generation pests would be around 9.3 million ha.

 

ChemChina acquires Syngenta: USD20 billion committed already

In June 2016, China CITIC Bank (CITIC) announced that the first distribution targeted at China National Chemical Corporation (ChemChina)’s acquisition of Switzerland based Syngenta, was successfully finished on 3 this month. Accordingly, the total commitment was 120% of the syndicated loans.

 

Yanhua Yongle’s 28,000t/a environmentally-friendly pesticide fixed formulation project starts construction

On 28 May, 2016, the 28,000t/a environmentally-friendly pesticide fixed formulation project of Beijing Yanhua Yongle Biotechnology Co., Ltd. (Yanhua Yongle) started its construction in Leting County, Hebei Province. Located in the Chemical Industry Park of the Leting Economic Development Zone, the project is invested with USD56.9 million with the area of 100,000 square meters. It is planned to be finished and launched in April 2017. Yanhua Yongle said that the predicted sales revenue and profit of the project are USD379.4 million and USD106.2 million respectively.

 

Glyphosate export: down by 21.6% YoY to 54,034 tonnes in Feb. 2016

According to statistics from Think Real, China exported 54,034 tonnes of glyphosate in Feb. 2016, down by 21.6% YoY. The corresponding value also declined by 36.2% to USD116.6 million.

Bayer’s fluoxastrobin technical to be registered in China

On 27 May, 2016, the Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals, Ministry of Agriculture of China (ICAMA) published a notice about the fifth batch of pesticides planned to be approved, which includes the temporary registration of 94% fluoxastrobin technical by Bayer CropScience AG (Bayer). It will be the first registration of the active ingredient in China.

Shenghua Biok approved for investing USD244.4 million in acquiring online game company

On 20 May, 2016, Zhejiang Shenghua Biok Biology Co., Ltd. (Shenghua Biok) announced the conditional approval made by the China Securities Regulatory Commission on its proposal to acquire Blaze.Loong Group (Blaze.Loong). Accordingly, Shenghua Biok planned to invest USD244.4 million (USD122.2 million in cash + USD122.2 million by share) in acquiring 100% of stake in Blaze.Loong, an online game developer and distributor (as an agent), and to make a private placement targeted at the actual controlling shareholder, Shen Peijin, for a sum of <=USD229.2 million.

 

MOA: adjustment plan for China’s planting structure in 2016-2020

To promote the structural reform of agricultural supplies and enhance the quality and efficiency of agriculture, the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) formulated the Adjustment Plan for China’s Planting Structure in 2016-2020 (the Plan), asking the agricultural departments of local provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities to guide the adjustment of the planting areas of grains, cotton, oil crops, sugar crops, vegetables and forage crops by the Plan.

 

MIIT: USD4.6 billion input in supporting relocation of hazardous chemical enterprises and construction of chemical industrial parks/ zones

Accordingly, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China (MIIT) listed the hazardous chemicals production enterprise relocation and reconstruction project in the state’s special construction fund, to specifically input USD4.6 billion in supporting their relocation and the construction of chemical industrial parks/ zones.
