On 24 July, 2019, Shanghai Shengnong Pesticide Co., Ltd. (Shanghai Shengnong) and East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) jointly held a conference for field demonstration and evaluation of a new patented insecticide named cycloxaprid.
Cycloxaprid is a novel neonicotinoid insecticide jointly developed by Shanghai Shengnong and ECUST. This product is designed for control of rice pests such as rice planthopper mainly, a new choice for controlling major agricultural pests. The first cycloxaprid registration in China was approved in 2018.
During the demonstration conference, experts sang highly of the control effect of 25% cycloxaprid WP (wettable powder) (commercial name Wenglong®), which belongs to a research subject undertaken by ECUST (titled “research and demonstration of an insecticide featured by strong control effect, low risk and small molecular”).
The joint development of cycloxaprid started from late 2011 accompanied with establishment of a joint R&D center. The product is a result of constant exploration of new synthesis routes and new techniques.
In August 2018, Shanghai Shengnong attained formal registration licenses of cycloxaprid technical and 25% cycloxaprid WP for controlling rice planthopper and cabbage aphid (Brevicoryne brassicae (Linne)). In addition, the company has also succeeded in developing cycloxaprid OD (oil dispersion) which is under field test for registration application.
