Sino-Agri Leading, Mitsui Chemicals Agro launch new fungicide Affet

On 9 April, 2019, Sino-Agri Leading Biosciences Co., Ltd. (Sino-Agri Leading) and Mitsui Chemicals Agro, Inc. (Mitsui Chemicals Agro) jointly held a product press release in Shouguang City, Shandong Province, unveiling a new fungicide under the brand name Affet®.

As introduced at the press release, Affet® is a penthiopyrad-based succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor (SDHI) fungicide. Among all of the pesticide ingredients coming off patent during 2015~2020, penthiopyrad is the only one belonging to the SDHI category. The past several years have witnessed a rapid growth of penthiopyrad—the compound annual growth rate of the product’s sales reached as high as 58.5% in 2009—2014.

So far, there have been two registrations of penthiopyrad in China: 99% technical and 20% SC. Both registrations were filed by Mitsui Chemicals Agro and approved on 30 January, 2019. The 20% SC is designed to control grape gray mold and cucumber powdery mildew through aerial spray.

Yang Qiong, General Manager Assistant and Deputy General Manager of the Plant Health Division of Sino-Agri Leading, said at the press release that the compounds and mixed formulations of penthiopyrad have been registered and used on various crops in more than 30 countries and regions worldwide. As a fungicide mainly used on vegetables and fruit trees, the product is a new selection of health management solutions for the two kinds of crops. It’s predicted that the global sales of SDHI fungicides would come to USD2.5 billion in 2022. Among all of the products belonging to this category, penthiopyrad displays outstanding growth potential and broad future, becoming one of the popular products. Sino-Agri Leading will be dedicated to promotion of Affet® to make it a smash on the market.
