On 26 Sept., 2018, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) approved the formal registrations of seven amicarbazone products, indicating the upcoming peaking for amicarbazone registration.
Among the seven, one is the 97% amicarbazone technical from Jiangxi Zhonghe Chemical Co., Ltd. (Jiangxi Zhonghe) and six are amicarbazone formulations from Zhejiang Zhongshan Chemicals Group Co., Ltd. It is reported that the registration mentioned above is the first one for amicarbazone formulations (excluding repacking ones) by domestic enterprises.
In 2014, Arysta Lifescience (North America) Co., Ltd. temporarily registered amicarbazone 97% TC and 70% WG, which turned formal in 2016; in 2014, Jiangsu Mindleader Agroscience Co., Ltd. got the repacking registration of amicarbazone 70% WG, which expired in Dec. 2016.
In addition to Jiangxi Zhonghe, three other domestic enterprises registered amicarbazone products during 2016-2018, namely Jiangsu Flag Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. (temporary registration till April 2017), Jiangsu Good Harvest-Weien Agrochemical Co., Ltd. and Jiangsu Agrochem Laboratory (both amicarbazone 97% TC).
Amicarbazone (BAY314666) is triazolinone herbicide found by Bayer in 1988 and launched on the Brighton World Plant Protection Conference held in England in 1999. Later in 2004, Bayer transferred the technology to Arysta LifeScience Corporation for promotion and operation.
It is known that amicarbazone can effectively prevent and control annual broad-leaf weeds and gramineae weeds for corn and sugarcane fields. It boasts the features of long weeding time, safety for underground water and succession crops. Its dosage is only 1/2-1/3 that of atrazine, which makes it an excellent substitute for traditional herbicides like atrazine.
